Whoville: Who Ya Servin? – 1 Peter 4:7-11

About This Message

1 Peter 4:7-11, Ephesians 4:12, 1 Corinthians 12:15-16

The people of Whoville celebrated Christmas even though the Grinch had taken all of their presents. The Grinch is so moved he gives all the presents back to the town of Whoville. He is also given the opportunity to serve the “roast beast” to the whole town. As he started to serve his heart grew three sizes. God wants our hearts to grow. One of the ways we can expand our heart is to serve those around us.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. 1 Peter 4:7-11 (NIV)

What is a spiritual gift?

Spiritual Gifts are given to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church. Ephesians 4:12 (CEV)

1. You don’t pick your gift.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

2. Gifts are given to serve others.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others… I Peter 4:10 (NIV)

3. The gifts we have are different.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. I Peter 4:10 (NIV)

If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? 1 Corinthians 12:15-16

4. When gifts are used properly God will be celebrated.

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. I Peter 4:11 (NIV)
