Walk This Way: Ready For Jesus: Mark 1:1-13

About This Message

To get ready for God to do something great…

1) I must GO with Jesus

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Mark 1:1 (CSB)

Bring Mark with you, for he is useful to me in the ministry.
2 Timothy 4:11 (CSB)

2) I must WALK in humility

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. 3 A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight!
Mark 1:2-3 (CSB)

And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie…”
Mark 1:7 (CSB)

You yourselves were there when I made it public that I was not the Messiah but simply the one sent ahead of him to get things ready. The one who gets the bride is, by definition, the bridegroom. And the bridegroom’s friend, his ‘best man’—that’s me—in place at his side where he can hear every word, is genuinely happy. How could he be jealous when he knows that the wedding is finished, and the marriage is off to a good start?
John 3:27-29 (Mess)

3) I must YIELD to the Spirit

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John.  As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness.
Mark 1:9-11 (CSB)

4) I must STOP falling into temptation

He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving him.
Mark 1:13 (CSB)
