Swagger Wagon: Sex Ed-How To Talk To Your Kids About Sex: Proverbs 5

About This Message

1. Take responsibility for your kids.

My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel.  Then you will learn to be discreet and will store up knowledge.

Proverbs 5:1-2 (NLT)

2. Train your kids to run from temptation.

The lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil.  But the result is as bitter as poison, sharp as a double-edged sword.  Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.  For she does not care about the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t even realize where it leads. So now, my sons, listen to me. Never stray from what I am about to say:  Run from her! Don’t go near the door of her house!

Proverbs 5:3-8 (NLT)

3. Talk to your kids about sexual integrity.

If you do, you will lose your honor and hand over to merciless people everything you have achieved in life.  Strangers will obtain your wealth, and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor.  Afterward you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body, and you will say, “How I hated discipline! If only I had not demanded my own way!  Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to those who gave me instruction?  I have come to the brink of utter ruin, and now I must face public disgrace.”

Proverbs 5:9-14 (NLT)

Afterward you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body.

Proverbs 5:11 (NLT)

I have come to the brink of utter ruin, and now I must face public disgrace.”

Proverbs 5:14 (NLT)

4. Teach your kids to thrive in marriage.

Drink water from your own well—share your love only with your wife.  Why spill the water of your springs in public, having sex with just anyone?  You should reserve it for yourselves. Don’t share it with strangers.  Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.  She is a loving doe, a graceful deer. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love.  Why be captivated, my son, with an immoral woman, or embrace the breasts of an adulterous woman?  For the LORD sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes.  An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him.  He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his incredible folly.

Proverbs 5:15-23 (NLT)

Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares?

Proverbs 5:16 (NIV)

May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Proverbs 5:18

A loving doe, a graceful deer–may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.

Proverbs 5:19

Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another man’s wife? For a man’s ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths.

Proverbs 5:20-21

The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast.  He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.

Proverbs 5:22-23

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NLT)
