Strength For The Storm: Work Out Your Faith, James 1:1-12

About This Message

Workout Your Faith

James 1:1-12

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:4 (ESV)

I.              EXPECT IT

Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy.
James 1:2-4 (NLT)

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NLT)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds…
James 1:2 (NIV)

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
James 1:2 (KJV)

II.             ENGAGE IT

And if, in the process, any of you does not know how to meet any particular problem he has only to ask God – who gives generously to all men without making them feel foolish or guilty – and he may be quite sure that the necessary wisdom will be given him. But he must ask in sincere faith without secret doubts as to whether he really wants God’s help or not.
James 1:5-6   (PT)

But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
James 1:6-8 (NIV)

And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
James 5:15 (NIV)

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20-21 (NIV)

III.            EMBRACE IT

When all kinds of trials and temptations crowd into your lives my brothers, don’t resent them as intruders, but welcome them as friends! Realize that they come to test your faith and to produce in you the quality of endurance.
James 1:2-3 (PT)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
James 1:2 (NIV)

IV.           ENJOY IT

God blesses the people who patiently endure testing. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 (NLT)
