Reach: The Lost Are Found – John 3:1-3

About This Message

John 3:1-4,7-9,14-17 – John 12:32

Don Ritchie resided next to The Gap, a famous cliff Sydney, Australia, known for suicide attempts. Whenever he looked out his front window and saw troubled people about to take their lives he would go out and talk to them, offer them a drink or try to help them. More often than not the quiet approach worked, though on some occasions he risked his own life by physically restraining the more determined from making their final leap. Before his death in May his family said he saved more than 500 lives. In 2006, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for saving so many lives.  Spiritually speaking God wants us to be about saving lives too.

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. John 3:1-3 (NIV)

1) Share Spiritual Truth

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” John 3:3 (NIV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 (NIV)

2) Answer Important Questions

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” John 3:4 (NIV)

You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. John 3:7-9 (NIV)

3) Lift Up Jesus

Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” John 3:14-15 (NIV)

And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. John 12:32 (NIV)
