Power: Embracing God’s Power-1 Kings 17:2-9

About This Message

Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him.

1 Kings 16:30 (NIV)

1. Embrace the “Living God”

Now Elijah, who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab, “As surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives—the God whom I worship and serve—there will be no dew or rain during the next few years unless I give the word!”
1 Kings 17:1 (NLT)

Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 1 Samuel 17:36 (NIV)

When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?” Daniel 6:20 (NIV)

This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites…  Joshua 3:10 (NIV)

2. Embrace Your Limitations

Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there.  The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

1 Kings 17:2-6 (NIV)

3. Embrace Change

Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.  Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” 1 Kings 17:7-9 (NIV)
