Gotcha: Losing The Battle But Winning The War – Hebrews 4:14-16

About This Message

Hebrews 4:14-16, Luke 4:13, John 6:60, Luke 22:49-51, Ephesians 3:12, James 4:6, 2 Peter 3:18

The St. Louis Cardinals won the world series and their record was 90-72 games last year.  That is a lot of games to loose and still have a championship ball club, but you don’t win every game.  You don’t have to win every inning, you don’t have to hit every ball, you don’t even have to win every game but you can still win the championship.  That is kind of like temptation, you can lose some battles, but hopefully you don’t lose the war.

1. Jesus Knows Your Struggle So Don’t Give Out

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin. Hebrews 4:15 (NIV)

For since he himself has now been through suffering and temptation, he knows what it is like when we suffer and are tempted, and he is wonderfully able to help us. Hebrews 2:18 (TLB)

When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13 (NIV)

On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” John 6:60 (NIV)

When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. 51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him. Luke 22:49-51 (NIV)

2. Jesus Grants You Access So Don’t Give In

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)

Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come fearlessly into God’s presence, assured of his glad welcome. Ephesians 3:12 (NLT)

3. Jesus Gives You Grace and Mercy So Don’t Give Up

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6 (NIV)

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
