Be Strong & Courageous: The Ripple Effect – Joshua 7

About This Message

Joshua 7:19-21, Proverbs 27:6, Romans 5:12-15

The world we live in is interrelated. Everyone affects everyone else.

If you have ever had a computer virus, you know what I mean. The virus knocks out the fan and then the hard drive melts. It’s all connected. I have Mac so I never have that problem, but you PC people know what I mean.

Families are connected, businesses are interrelated, neighborhoods and communities all affect each other. WE ALL HAVE A RIPPLE EFFECT ON EACH OTHER. The Ripple Effect is the how our actions effect those around us.

How Do We Deal With Irresponsibility/Sin?

Call it Out – In Other People’s Lives

Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and honor him. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”  Joshua 7:19  (NIV)

Get Honest – In My Own Life

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.  Proverbs 27:6 (NIV)

When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.  James 1:13-15 (NIV)

What Is The Downward Spiral of Sin

He Saw
He Coveted
He Took
He Hid

Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and give him the praise. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.” Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I have done: When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.  Joshua 7:19-21 (NIV)

How Is The Doward Spiral of Sind Broken?

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned 13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!                                                                                                   Romans 5:12-15 (NIV)
