A Life Of Legacy: Philippians 2:3-11

About This Message

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.  Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.  Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:3-11 (ESV)

A Legacy Of Christ-like Character

Christlike Character is not equal to perfection.
Christlike Character = progress/growth.

1. Christlike Character begins with Humility

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Philippians 2:3 (ESV)

2. Christlike Character Cares for Others

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Philippians 2:4 (ESV)

3. Christlike Character Serves others

But made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Philippians: 2:7-8 (ESV)

4. Christlike Character Blazes a Trail or Others to Follow

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:9-11 (ESV)

For when he dies he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.
Psalm 49:17
