50 Shades of Grace: Addicted To Grace-2 Corinthians 8:1-9

About This Message

But since you excel in everything–in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you –see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV)

1. Generosity Begins With Grace

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. And here is my judgment about what is best for you in this matter. Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. 2 Corinthians 8:9-10 (NIV)

2. Everyone Can Practice Generosity

We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy andtheir extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gaveaccording to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord begging us earnestlyfor the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints.

2 Corinthians 8:1-3 (NIV)

3. Giving is a Joy not a Burden

We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.

2 Corinthians 8:1-2 (NIV)

…God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV)

4.     Generosity is an Attitude not Just an Action

But they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us…But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you see that you excel in this act of grace also. 2 Corinthians 8:5-7 (NIV)

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9:7-8 NIV
